This blog documents the birth of something ridiculous: a collaborative effort to build algorithmic trading strategies that don’t require a PhD from MIT or a backchannel to Goldman Sachs. We’re building this thing because the stock market has become a casino where only the rich get to play, and they’re winning by rigging the dice. No kings.

Think SETI@home for stock trading. That’s the goal anyway. We’ll be throwing machine learning at the problem — genetic algorithms, neural networks, whatever fancy acronym sounds impressive enough to make a quant nod approvingly. The point is to distribute the work: you contribute compute or ideas, we all benefit from whatever actually works.

Eventually (and this is the part where I put on my salesman hat), we’ll release client software so anyone can participate. Run the algorithm, contribute your slice of processing power, collect whatever profit the collective mind generates. It’s democratization by way of distributed computing and slightly questionable financial optimism.

This blog will track the journey: what we’re building, why it matters (or doesn’t), and whether any of this actually works. Spoiler: probably not at first. But hey, that’s how it goes.
